About the Safer Products Project
Clean Production Action launched the Safer Products Project to generate public support for safe chemicals. Our household dust study of 2004 demonstrates that hazardous chemicals, used widely in common household products, are contaminating household dust and presenting yet another exposure to dangerous chemicals.
Hazardous chemicals are regularly used as additives in consumer goods. Some of these chemicals are known to be hazardous—yet our current system of regulation allows them to continue to be brought into our homes in products. As we learn more about the risks of using toxic chemicals that persist and build up in the environment, companies are finding ways to replace high concern chemicals with safer alternatives.
